Top priority: Ensuring quality – iSQI celebrates 15th year company anniversary

The certification company iSQI has been working for 15 years certifying people and making an important contribution to quality assurance in all economic sectors. Certifications, as they are still offered today by iSQI, were just about to start getting widely known in 2004. Since then, iSQI can look back on a rapid growth and is one of the largest certifiers worldwide with headquarters in Potsdam, three international branches and 30,000 certifications per year.

iSQI was founded by Arbeitskreis Software-Qualität und -Fortbildung e.V. (ASQF). Initially funded by an initiative of the federal state of Bavaria. The need for uniform education standards in the IT industry was so urgent at the time that iSQI became an independently financed company shortly after. Certifications, such as the ISTQB® scheme widely accepted among software testers, iSQI helps experts from all countries to understand each other better on a technical level. “The aim was and still is to create iSQI as an independent authority for a consistently high-level of quality in the training of IT specialists worldwide” explains Stephan Goericke, iSQI CEO since 2005. “The topic is still a key factor today as it was 15 years ago because constant learning shapes the IT industry,” says Bernd Hindel, who supported the foundation in 2004 as president of ASQF e.V.

What began with around 300 certifications sold each year was in the five-digit range five years later: iSQI had already sold 10,000 certifications in over 50 countries in 2009. In 2013, the first subsidiary iSQI B.V. was founded in the Netherlands, closely followed by iSQI Ltd. in the UK in 2014 and iSQI, Inc. in the USA in 2015. Today, iSQI certifies around 30,000 professionals annually in more than 100 countries and is considered an established player in the global market. “Only very few can afford to concentrate on a regional market today. There are incomparably more competitors, contracts are concluded in several languages, goods and services are offered all over the world. That is why the qualification of personnel is more important than ever.” says Goericke.

Today, iSQI has more than 50 international standardized exams in its portfolio. These include globally recognized certifications for software testers and requirement engineers as well as other professions and topics. For example, iSQI also certifies agile work, which is increasingly being implemented across industries, or Design Thinking, an agile, user-oriented approach to work together in a team to develop creative results.

Digitalization, automation and the use of artificial intelligence have brought changes to methods and to core areas. Fundamental changes are emerging that will alter our society in the upcoming years. “After 15 years of working intensively in the IT training sector, iSQI has shown with complete clarity that without specialists, automation is nothing. Artificial intelligence is nothing without people who specify to it what is ‘intelligent’. The more complex the systems become, the more important will be training and ongoing professional development. The formula for the future is: Digitization is qualification plus automation – upskilling leads digitalization.” says Goericke.
